Even if my children are grown up, if we can, we try to go away all together for a few days every year. After a search the choice fell on London, only 5 days, but really beautiful. Beautiful city with lots of interesting things to do and visit suitable for all ages. Don’t worry, I’m not going to give you a detailed report of my trip, but just tell you a couple of things that might be helpful if you decide to organize a trip. On the internet we got a low cost ticket. There are more companies offering air tickets at low prices and the journey is relatively short (Malpensa Luton just under 2 hours).
For the accommodation we opted for an apartment, not for a cost reason, but for a question of organization. We found this on the Internet too, there are several sites such as airbnb or even homelidays that offer different options both in terms of location and price. The house allows more freedom and the opportunity to cook can be an interesting option, and then I love to go to supermarkets and try some local specialties. We booked an apartment in a residence (in a convenient area just a few minutes walk from 2 subway stations (Sloan Square and South Kensington), in front there was a supermarket, to my delight, and a Starbucks for that of my sons.
Before leaving, I booked a walking tour of central London, just to get an idea of the city: the City, the Thames, the district of Westminster. In recent years it’s much more easier to find associations of volunteers who show their city for free. And if you like the tour, you can thank the guide with an offer. Just type on the Internet “free walking tour” and the name of the city. We chose Strawberry Tours which declare to devolve part of the offers to a local voluntary association. The tour we chose had the title of “London in a day” it lasted 7 hours including an hour stop in a pub (we could decide to go have lunch somewhere else) where we ate a very good fish and chips at an affordable price. The ride was very pleasant, our guide Nathan, was able to keep our attention alive throughout the day telling us historical facts and anecdotes about the city.
